Well folks, it looks like the Colts and Bjoern Werner finally reached a deal. It was reported this morning that Werner and the Colts front office have reached a 4 year deal worth 7.9 million and a 4 million dollar signing bonus. This happened at the perfect time. This now will allow Werner to join his teammates in Anderson for training camp so he can get that valuable experience that is needed for the upcoming season.
Werner will be in a battle with Eric Walden for the LOLB position. This is going to be a transition for Werner as he is coming from a 4-3 defensive format at Florida State. He will be going through the same thing that Mathis and Freeney went through last year which is learning how to play the same effectively in the upright position. At least Bjoern will have Mathis to learn from and Walden as well. Walden is coming in with experience as the OLB in a 3-4 defense and that will be a big help.
Walden will more than likely will be the starter in week one unless Werner has an outstanding camp. One thing you can be sure of is that Werner will see field time and will get better as the season progresses and should be the starter by the end of the season.
