Reports came out this afternoon that Darrius Heyward-Bey suffered a knee injury during practice. Shortly thereafter reports flowed in from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that DHB had suffered a sprained MCL and would miss 2-4 weeks in not longer. The only problem is that after practice ended this afternoon, reports came out of the Colts camp that DHB’s knee was only sprained and wasn’t a serious injury but would miss some time but nothing serious. Which one is it?
The Colts organization have held strong to the sprained knee and not a sprained MCL which is great and I would tend to trust more as they are the ones in camp, not Mort. Whatever the case may be this isn’t a good situation for DHB. He is missing valuable time with the offense and he is not going to be able to gel nicely now that he is on the pine. However, with DHB out for the time being this will open up the opportunity for Griff Whalen to step in and show the coaches that he is a viable option. He may not have Darrius’ size or speed but he has shown great hands and route running during camp. We will keep an eye on this and hope that DHB can get the treatment he needs to get in the game as soon as possible.
